Contest Rules and Regulations

RULES

1. The VANAS contests are open to any artist. You do not have to be a VANAS student.

2. Faculty, instructors, teachers from other animation schools are not eligible to enter the contest (due to a possible conflict of interest between educational institutions).

3. Drawing contests are only for drawings (we do hope to have additional competitions for photos, sculpture and other mediums in the future).

4. Artwork must be uploaded in a digital format (i.e. JPEG, PSD.).

5. Registration is free otherwise specified in the contest description.

6. The VANAS Family of Characters is property of Vancouver Animation School (by creating your version of them, it does not mean you own the VANAS Family of characters).

7. You may enter as many versions for the contest as you would like.

8. You may not submit the same artwork/document in different contests.

9. Story contests material must be uploaded in text format document (i.e. Word, PDF, raw text).

10. If your submission wins a prize or award, it will not be eligible to win in subsequent months.

11. ALL entries (not just the winners) will be displayed on the VANAS website. Each entry becomes part of the public, historical online contest catalog and will not be removed at a later date.

12. No restriction on subject matter, just keep it clean please and follow the contest themes if specified.

13. For images, you may upload whatever image size you are comfortable sharing (a minimum of 600px would be great in order for us to see details).

14. The VANAS faculty will select 3 winners for each contest.

15. The artwork/document will be judged on the following criterion: subject matter selection, creativity and setting.

16. Your artwork/document must be your own original concept and not a copy of anyone else's copyrighted material (if your image infringes upon another's copyright it will be disqualified).

17. You may only submit your own artwork/document that you, personally designed (we reserve the right to demand proof that this is in fact your original artwork, created solely by you. If it is not, then your entry will be disqualified).

18. Make sure that your artwork/document is signed and all the contact information is visible in the image or document you upload (this helps us with verification).

19. Ensure that your artwork/documents are dated and that the date is visible in the image or document you upload (this helps us with verification).

20. Each artist is allowed to win up to 2 art contest awards each month.

21. If artist 1 is awarded a course award by a judge, artist 2, and the winning artist1 is later a judge, then winning artist1 may not award a course award to artist2 if it has been less than 12 months.

22. If a contest prize is a free course or a portion of the tuition, a course start date is specified. The course start date is not transferable to any other course start dates.

23. If a contest prize is a free course, it is non transferable to any other person, artist, human, dog, mascot, etc.

24. After an artist has won, that artist may not be awarded another course award for a period of 3 months.

25. You will not have to provide your images or documents physically, so don't worry about having to ship it (follow the upload instructions).

26. Artwork/document may be submitted until 11:59pm, pacific time on the date specified in the contest (no artworks will be accepted past the deadline).

27. All submissions must be made through this website, email submissions and/or physical submission can't be accepted.

28. The decision of the jury and the judge is final.

29. By entering this competition, you are granting us a non-exclusive perpetual license to reproduce images of your artwork (on this website and in our newsletters...with credit and links to you, of course).

30. Must be 19 or older, to be eligible for awards. If under the age of 19, a signature of parent or guardian is required.

31. By entering the competition, you agree to abide by all rules.

32. Competition beginning and ending dates are listed on the home page of this contest.

33. Winners will be announced and listed on this site 5 days after the contest deadline.

34. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW.

35. Don't forget to have fun.

REGULATIONS

1. INDEMNIFICATION BY PARTICIPANTS:

By entering the Contest, each Entrant:

(a) releases and holds harmless Vancouver Animation School and administrators and their respective directors, officers, employees, parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, suppliers, sponsors and agents from any and all liability for any injuries, loss or damage of any kind to persons, including death, or property damage, resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from acceptance, possession, use or misuse of any prize, participation in this contest, or participating in any prize-related activity; and
(b) agrees to fully indemnify Vancouver Animation School and administrators and their respective directors, officers, employees, parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, suppliers, sponsors and agents from any and all claims by third parties without limitation.


2. CONDUCT:

By entering this Contest, Entrants agree to be bound by these contest rules which will be posted on www.vanas.ca. Entrants further agree to be bound by the decisions of the judges, which shall be final and binding in all respects. Vancouver Animation School reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify and Entrant it finds to be:
(a) tampering or attempting to tamper with the entry process or the operation of the Contest or the Contest website;
(b) violating the Contest Rules;
(c) violating the terms of service, conditions or use and/or general rules or guidelines of any canada.com property or service, or
(d) acting in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person.


3. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY:

Vancouver Animation School and contest administrators assume no responsibility or liability for lost, late, delayed, misdirected or incomplete Entries, notifications, responses, replies, or any agreement and release documents or for any computer, online, telephone, hardware, software or technical malfunctions that may occur (including but not limited to malfunctions that may affect the transmission or non-transmission of an Entry). Vancouver Animation School and contest administrators are not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by website users or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the contest or by any technical or human error which may occur in the processing of Entries in the contest. Vancouver Animation School assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, Entries. Vancouver Animation School is not responsible for any problems, failures or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers, providers, computer equipment, software, email, players, or browsers, on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet, at any website, or on account of any combination of the foregoing. Vancouver Animation School is not responsible for any injury or damage to Entrants or to any computer related to or resulting from participating or downloading materials in this contest. If, for any reason, the contest is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of Vancouver Animation School which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this Contest, Vancouver Animation School reserves the right at their sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest.


4. PRIVACY:

By entering the contest on-line, Entrant(s) agree to Vancouver Animation School use of Entrant(s) personal information as described in Vancouver Animation School Privacy Policy at: www.vanas.ca LAWS: These are the official Contest Rules. This Contest is subject to all federal, provincial and municipal laws and regulations.
LAWS:
These Contest Rules are subject to change without notice in order to comply with any applicable federal, provincial and municipal laws or the policy of any other entity having jurisdiction over Vancouver Animation School.

5. TERMINATION:

Subject to the jurisdiction of the Regie des alcools, des courses et des jeux in Quebec, Vancouver Animation School reserve the right to amend or terminate all or any portion of this contest at any time for any reason without prior notice.


6. COPYRIGHT:

By entering this contest, the participant acknowledges and agrees that any and all of the copyright to and in any of the VANAS designs, logos, website and the VANAS Family of characters (the "Copyrighted Material") is owned by and remains with Vancouver Animation School. The participant in this contest will clearly attribute ownership of the Copyrighted Material to the Vancouver Animation School.
